What about this one:
No one on their deathbed ever said they’d wish they spent more time at work.
Life isn’t easy, but it doesn’t have to be so hard. We just need to have a good handle on where things are at, so we know where to focus.
Life is like riding a bike, and also like a wheel
You have to keep moving to keep your balance.
Now, this could mean different things for different people. Where I want to take you with this is getting a deeper awareness of your life environments.
Think about your life as a wheel, and within the wheel, each aspect of your life representing one spoke of the wheel: career, family, relationships, spirituality, mindset, finances, purpose, mindset.
At the core of it all is YOU, your wellness, your health, your mind, body and soul, however you want to label it… think of YOU as the hub of this wheel.
The spokes have to be even and the hub has to be strong and centered to hold the whole wheel together, keeping it balanced and moving at a smooth, reliable pace.
If your spokes aren’t even, your wheel doesn’t turn quite as it should, so as in life, when you’re not balanced, you can get stuck and feel a little unmotivated and like life is a struggle.
Life isn’t easy, but it doesn’t have to be so hard
Some of the most successful people are successful because at their core, they know their body fuels their mind and everything that they do and have in their life.
So, let’s say you had a great job, but your family life is not healthy or happy. Chances are that what’s happening at home is slowing you down at work, even if you’re the type of person that leaves their s#it at the door.
Or let’s say work and family life are great, but you’re eating like crap, sleeping late and not working out – chances are your body is slowing you down and you don’t have the energy you used to to kill it at work, let alone have the energy or time to spend with the fam like you used to.
That’s where the balance comes in, because life happens, and sometimes, no, all the time, we need to adapt and change, but in the way that makes us light up the most…
I used to push my body and my mind to limits that, now that I look back, were just silly, a total recipe for disaster.
Whether it was working through lunch or bailing on the gym or feeding my body with booze and food that tasted and felt great at the time, but left me feeling slow, unmotivated and tired.
I remember when I was working full-time and schooling part-time, there was even one point that I pushed myself so hard that I literally broke down into tears with my boss at work, on a totally unrelated matter.
I was seriously out of balance. Learn from my mistakes, and find balance in your life before you hit that breaking point.
How to achieve balance
Assess your life as it is right now
Do you find it hard to get out of bed? Are you feeling physically exhausted or mentally stagnant? Do you find yourself without close relationships? Would you say that you are a workaholic? Do you feel like there’s more?
If you answer yes to any of these questions, your life is probably out of balance.
Consciously choose to become balanced
People and clients tell me: I KNOW I should be doing x, but I just can’t do it or I tried, but…
At the end of the day, you choose your own reality. Your unconscious typically drives your thoughts, beliefs and opinions, not so much your conscious.
Thoughts can be positive or negative, beliefs can be limiting or limitless, and opinions, well they can be anywhere along the spectrum between absolute nonsense and absolute truth.
You choose your thoughts, you choose what to believe and you choose to seek and accept what is true.
Set SMART goals
Specific. Measurable. Attainable. Realistic. Timely.
You can say I want to lose 5 pounds…
…or you can say: I want to lose 5 pounds in the next 3 months by exercising for 30 minutes, at least four days a week, and by limiting junk food to one day per week. This will help me to destress and will give me more energy to do the things I miss doing, like going hiking with the family.
The whole idea is to not only say what you want, but really think and visualize what it will look like and feel like, and give you a target to hold you accountable.
Now set SMART goals for each area of your life
You remember the wheel of life? Go back to that and set goals for each aspect of your life: career, family, relationships, spirituality, mindset, finances, purpose, mindset
Now trust yourself and be ok with risk
Trust that you have everything you need to achieve your life goals.
Now, be willing and open to the idea of taking the risk to change. I know that you’re probably risk averse like I used to be.
Let me tell you that when you accept and take risks to change, you will not only enhance your life, but you will also feel unstoppable, like you have this energy and an expanded awareness of what life is all about.
