You know you want to. I mean, you keep telling yourself…
- today is the day I’m not going to feel tired after work, I’m going to eat really well, and I’m going to make it to the gym today
- seriously, tomorrow I’m going to get up, go to the gym, and then do that every day
- no fooling around now, I’m going to really do it this week
Am I right?! If I am, it’s only ’cause I was there. It’s why I do what I do and run these challenges every month.
I need a clear goal and I need accountability to really thrive. It’s that simple.
If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you
We all have those days where we don’t feel like it. We’re tired, unmotivated, and just want to go home and put our feet up after a long day. Who doesn’t!?
The thing is, we know that if we exercise and eat well and have our mind clear, that we would feel better, so then why is it so hard to actually DO it!
Because we’re human and all we want to do is feel safe, warm, and comfortable.
We have to do things that we don’t feel like. That’s life.
Enter Challenge!
Challenges are a fun way to get to where you want to go, and when you have a group challenge, you’re that much more committed because you don’t want to let everyone else down too.
The 30 day 10k step challenge
This month, we’ve all decided that we’re going to kick off the holiday season with a 30 day 10k step challenge – that’s 10,000 steps each day for 30 days, starting November 14th.
Walking is great because it’s low risk, it’s free, and you can pretty well do it anywhere you are able to.
Walking helps you:
- Lose weight
- Science says that your body needs fuel, energy (i.e. calories) so that it can perform bodily functions like breathing, digesting, etc.
- Fact: if you want to lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume
- Preserve lean muscle
- Science says that when you lose weight, you lose fat cells, potentially even muscle cells if you’re not exercising
- Fact: exercise like walking helps you keep your muscles strong and healthy
- Burn belly fat
- Science says that your body will burn fat cells with aerobic activity (e.g. jogging, walking) and anaerobic activity (e.g. sprinting, interval training)
- Fact: regularly doing moderate-intensity aerobic exercise like walking has been shown to help people lose belly fat
- Improve your mood
- Science says that the more serotonin your brain and gut produces, the happier you are
- Fact: physical activity increases serotonin production
- Ok, fun fact: 95% of serotonin production happens in your gut… so what goes in and on your body makes all the difference!
- Keep the weight off
- Science says that when you strengthen muscles, your metabolic rate speeds up
- Fact: muscle burns more calories than fat
Do you really need any other reasons to get more walking in?
